Are Chiropractic Adjustments Safe?
Contrary to popular belief, chiropractic adjustments (or manipulations), are extremely safe. However, just like other medical manipulations, such as massage or acupuncture, there are some small risks that are estimated to be one million to one (1,000,000:1).
Risks of a chiropractic adjustment may include:
- Herniated disk or worsening of an existing herniated disk.
- Stroke (vertebral artery dissection) post neck manipulation.
- Compression of nerves called cauda equina syndrome.
Again, these risks that have been associated with chiropractic care are estimated to be one million to one (1,000,000:1). If you’re concerned about your risk of injury, we ask that you consult with our chiropractor to have all of your concerns addressed.
It’s important to keep in mind that when you come into our chiropractor’s office, you’ll be given treatment by a Doctor of Chiropractic who is a highly trained professional that has had years of experience working on thousands of patients. The techniques that our Doctor of Chiropractic has been practicing are completely natural and drugless.
Medical Options May Be More Risky
By contrast, you may also find it interesting that in the December 11,1999 issue of the British Medical Journal, it was stated that medical errors kill almost 100,000 Americans a year, with other sources estimating the figure to be up to four times that amount, ranking only behind heart disease and cancer as the leading cause of death; Our conservative philosophy is: Chiropractic first, medicine second and surgery last.
