What is a chiropractic adjustment?
Chiropractic adjustments are a procedure in which a chiropractic uses their hands to apply controlled, sudden force to a spinal joint. This is also called a spinal manipulation, and it’s used to correct the structural alignment of joints and improve your body’s overall physical function. Chiropractors may also use small instruments to apply controlled force to a spinal joint, but adjustments aren’t limited to just the spine. Nearly any joint in your body can have an adjustment.
Why is it done?
Many people seek out help from a chiropractor if they’re experiencing back pain, neck pain or headaches. There are many other reasons to see a chiropractor, but low back pain and/or neck pain is the most common.
Are there risks?
We get this questions a lot, “Are there risks with a chiropractic adjustment?”. What can you expect?
You’ll be asked questions during your initial visit with our chiropractor. You’ll be asked about your health history and a physical exam may be performed, with particular attention to your spine. We may also request further examinations or tests, such as x-rays.
During your adjustments, our chiropractor will place you in certain positions in order to treat affected areas that are causing you discomfort. You’ll be lying on a specially designed, padded chiropractic table, and our chiropractor will apply pressure to specific joints along your spine, hips and/or neck to push a joint back to its usual range of motion. You may hear cracking or feel popping, however, this usually does not cause any discomfort.
After the adjustment you may feel great, but if it’s your first time, or a big adjustment, you may feel some minor side effects. These effects may last a few days after your first treatment, including fatigue, headache or minor pain in parts of your body that were adjusted.
Your chiropractic adjustment can be very effective in treating pain and discomfort that you’ve been experiencing, and a lot of research shows that regular chiropractic care is a very conventional type of treatment for back pain, headaches, neck pain and other pain you experience around the body. Of course, every adjustment may be different depending on your particular situation. To get started, contact our chiropractor in Victorville online now!
