Do Chiropractic Adjustments Hurt?
Our chiropractors get asked frequently, “Do chiropractic adjustments hurt?” To give you an honest answer, every patient is different; therefore, each person will have a different answer. However, in most cases, the majority of our patients do not experience any discomfort or pain during their chiropractic adjustment.
Understandably, it’s important to realize that some spinal adjustments may cause you a little discomfort or minimal pain. If you are an individual who has felt pain while receiving an adjustment in the past, recognize that this is from inflammation present around the joint of the adjusted area. When your body becomes unaligned, it is common for inflammation surrounding that joint to occur. Only on occasion do we receive comments from patients regarding their comfort level during the adjustment. Again, it’s good to keep in mind that every patient is different, and every adjustment will be completely different from the last. So, if you’ve received an adjustment in the past that was not very comfortable, understand that your next appointment may be the complete opposite.
Like we stated above, one of the biggest contributing factors of uncomfortable adjustments is due to inflammation and swelling around the area of adjustment. Take the inflammation as a sign that you may feel a bit of discomfort during your appointment; however, it will only last a moment. Any of the discomfort you feel, if any, should not disrupt your day-to-day life, and you should be able to go about your day as normal.
